A.Decisions we make about our family's health are among the most important ones we make, yet most of us have little objective information on which to base these decisions. By empowering consumers with trusted, meaningful insights into hospital performance, consumers can make sure informed choices and influence demand for quality care which ultimate serves both the consumer and the industry.
A.Cal Hospital Compare is a non-profit that has been providing consumers with hospital quality ratings for more than a decade. We are managed by a multi-stakeholder group consisting of representatives from hospitals, purchasers, health plans, and consumer groups. Cal Hospital Compare uses an open and collaborative process of aggregating multiple sources of public data, engaging industry experts to establish relevant measures and scoring. We partner with American Institutes for Research to produce hospital ratings that are accurate and meaningful to consumers.
A.The hospital's discharge planner should provide a short list of available options; however, those options may include facilities with both high and low quality ratings. That's why you may want to consider other facilities in addition to the ones provided by the discharge planner. And that's why you should consult CalHospitalCare.org to see how each facility is rated. Finally, taking the time to call and tour possible options can lead to a better quality provider.
